You have several options when it comes to losing weight.  Eating fruits and vegetables is just one of them. The juice diet works well for people, because it's simply.  That doesn't mean it will satisfy your appetite by making you feel fuller, because what diets do.  However, the fact that all you do is blend the ingredients is the simplicity of it.

I never thought everyone should detox, but it seems to be a good health practice.  For example, I didn't know stress triggers your body to release stress hormones into your system.  These hormones can provide the adrenaline rush to win a race or meet a deadline, but it also creates toxins in large amounts and slows down detoxification enzymes in the liver.

Juice Diet Recipes 
The days recommended for a juice diet is about seven days.  You should consult a health care professional for additional questions.

Remember, if a recipe is unappealing to you, make substitutions that are similar.  For example, if a recipe calls for celery, but you can't get any or just don't like celery, then replace it with a carrot or even cabbage.

Fruits and vegetables used to make the juices often include:
  • Celery

  • Beets
  • Leafy greens

Tips to help you with the juice diet
It can be tempting to want to jump into the juice diet.  It's exciting and you just want to get started.  During the actual fasting days, approximately 32 to 96 ounces of juice is suggested.  At least half of the juice should be green vegetables.  Green vegetable are rich in chlorophyll, which is said to help cleanse and heal the digestive tract.

  1. Use a juicer instead of a blender.  A blender won't extract the pulp and only leaves you with juice.  This makes your juices thick and much higher in calories.   Even when you strain your juices, you aren't getting the same quality, because a blender doesn't break down the juice to it's lowest state.  The goal is to put your digestive system at rest while you drink just juice.  Juice is already broken down and it gets absorbed and bypasses the digestive process.  
  2. Only eat solids foods during the days you are on the juice diet.  It defeats the purpose if you eat solids.
  3. If you get headaches or strong cravings, it is normal for the first 2-4 days.  Make an extra juice serving if you feel like you are about to cave in.
  4. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, but make sure you are drinking 16 ounces of water after each juice meal.
  5. Start each day off by juicing a 1/2 peeled lemon and mix it with 12-16 ounces of warm to hot water.  It's important to cleanse your digestive system and give you a good boost of energy.
  6. Make sure to drink 4-6 juices per day that are 16-20 ounces.  
Drink each juice slowly rather than gulping it down.  Juices should be consumed approximately one to two hours apart.  The final beverage of the day should be at least hours before bedtime.

Remember, vitamin C is one of the best vitamins around.  Lemons, oranges, and limes work with the liver and enzymes in the digestive trace to flush out toxins.  The extra dose of vitamin C in citrus fruits acts as a super detoxifying food.  
  1. Lemon juice supports the liver in its cleansing process.  You can increase detoxification by drinking a warm glass of lemon water each morning.

Not losing weight by eating only fruits and vegetables
Have you heard the slower your metabolism, the slower the weight loss.  I believe that to be somewhat true. You see some people just lose weight faster.  That doesn't mean that they are doing everything right and it certainly doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong.  It could be they live a more active lifestyle that keeps them on their feet all day, every day.  Or it could be that you work at a desk all day and the only walking you do is to and from the bathroom.  With that being said if you are following all of the directions to help you lose weight while on the juice diet, then the weight is going to come off.  However just be patient.  Be thankful the toxins are leaving your body.  And remember to set yourself up on real expectations.  Give your body the time it needs to do the work of cleansing.
