Bishop T.D. Jakes started preaching in 1980 at a store-front church in West Virginia. It had only a handful of members at that time, but now he has over 30,000.

I can relate to T.D. Jakes in so many ways.  My mother in law started her own church just three years ago (2011).  Oh how much we have been blessed and I believe we have also helped to bless a few people along the way.  We've been in all types of buildings...even a store-front church.  The growth of ministry, love, and doing God's will for God's people are just a few things we are expecting from God.

I pray you can relate to T.D. Jakes story.  I know I can...

#1 What does the initials T.D. Jakes stand for? His initials stand for his real name, which is, Thomas Dexter Jakes and he was born in 1957. T.D. Jakes has been in ministry for over 36 years and he is the pastor of the Potter's House Church in Dallas, Texas.   There are over 30,000 members who attend regularly.

#2 T.D. Jakes Wife
T.D. Jakes is celebrating 32 years of marriage with his wife Serita Jakes.  They have five children and 3 grandchildren.  His wife Serita tells Oprah the secret to keeping their marriage a success is,

"Lots of communication and lots of talking over the phone while he's traveling.  As he has evolve, I have had to evolve with him.  There were ex girlfriends in the beginning that told me I shouldn't have married him.  There were those who didn't pass the test with the family, but I was able to."  Bishop T.D. Jakes and I, at the core are friends.  First Lady Serita Jakes says marriage is an assignment and you have to work at marriage. View full video at Ballerwives . com

#3 A Counselor For the Last Three Presidents
Yes, T.D. Jakes has counseled Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and now President Barack Obama. Oprah asked him during a "Oprah's Next Chapter Interview" what special prayer do you give to God, if a president calls to ask for counsel.

"I try not to tell presidents how to be presidents, because I have never been a president.  So, I don't tell them how to run the country or the world.  I do know they are all men, they are all fathers, all husbands, all are over worked, and all are over stress.  I pray for their families and they will have the spiritual fortitude to withstand the toxic environment in which they serve our country.  I do see some commonalities between them.  I believe all three men rose to power, believe they could make a different.  To really try to make a change that has a way of changing you.  Politics will change you."

#4 T.D. Jakes is the producer of the Movie Sparkle
Bishop T.D. Jakes was asked by the "Christian Post" that his movie "Sparkle" may not be viewed as Christian film.  And what would he say to his brothers and sisters in Christ about this film?

"My company does not produce just faith films.  We want to produce films with a positive message and I think this fits into that category.  I think mainstream people will enjoy the film.  And if you don't, then stand by, because we'll be doing something else.  His movie "Heaven is for Real," will be in movies Easter of April 16, 2014."

#5 T.D. Jakes Told his Congregation He Does Not Use Their Financial Contributions for Personal Gain
After, the first show of "Preachers of L.A." aired there was a message T.D. Jakes had to tell his congregation to set the facts straight.  I must admit, any questions I had about him not doing the show was answered!  And I had questions about his members paying for his lifestyle...but keep reading he sets the record straight.

"Now, I know you been watching that junk on TV.  I want to tell you right now, not one dime of what you're sowing right now will buy my suit.  I want you to know my car is paid for.  I want you to know I got my house on my own.  I want you to know I am not bling-blinging.  I am not shake and bake.  I had money when I came to Dallas and I plan to have some when I leave."

"I rebuke the spirit that caused people to think financial contributions should go into preacher's pockets.  You did not buy what I got.  I had it when I came here.  You know I had it when I came here.  The devil is a lie.  I have sold enough books and produced enough movies.  I don't need your offerings to pay for this little slimy suit.  So, I rebuke that spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.  I'm not from L.A., I'm from Dallas."

Well, let the church say Amen, Pastor Jakes!

Most of us are guilty of thinking our monies go to the pastor and not the church.  Now, I don't think it's wrong to pay your pastor for their awesome ministry, but someone like T.D. Jakes you wonder how is he really able to afford his house, his car, his nice suits, his children's college tuition, the plane trips, his vacation, and things for his wife.  But T.D. Jakes, I believe shut us all down, when he told his congregation that.

I'm so happy he set the record straight.  And it is ignorant to think that since one pastor is accepting money from the church for personal gain, that all are like that.  That's just a lie the devil told you.  To read more this interview go to Christian Post .com
